Descriptions
The Carbonara Tales is a free rage platformer for iOS and Android. You play a capybara with a tangerine on its head, running through five short, cozy-looking tales where almost every block is a trap. Each death brings a hand-drawn death screen, and the ending finally explains what they all mean.
The Carbonara Tales looks cute and plays vicious. It is a story-driven rage platformer about a capybara with a tangerine on its head, wandering through five tales: a mole village, a winter night with little yetis, the rainy Lemon District, a crab uprising on the beach and a fifth tale that stays secret. A perfect run through a tale takes 40 to 75 seconds. Getting there takes many attempts: blocks fall, floors give way, and most traps only reveal themselves once you fall for them. There are no lives, no energy and no paid continues. The Aura counter simply goes down with every death.
After every death the game shows a hand-drawn death screen, one of 50 drawings, ten for each tale: pizza day, a dog sled ride, a windy day with an umbrella. They look random. They are not. The mood shifts from tale to tale, and the ending explains what the drawings mean and what the capybara's journey is really about.
The game is played inside CAPY-8, a retro handheld console drawn around the screen, with an adjustable CRT effect and a mini-screen where the capybara reacts to everything you do. Play in portrait or landscape, with buttons or touch pads, or with a physical keyboard on iPad. Speedrun mode adds per-tale splits, run history and a live delta to your best time. Eighteen skins change the hero, and legendary skins restyle the whole console. The Carbonara Tales is free with ads; optional in-app purchases are cosmetic skins and Remove Ads.
